Interpreting the Ascendant in Readings

Join our four course class
Interpreting the Ascendant in Readings

Instructor: Forrest
Meets: Tuesdays, 07:30 pm - 09:00 pm
First class: Jan. 15, 2019

Class Meeting 1: The Ascendant, its meaning and significance in a birth chart, and its ruler(s)

Class Meeting 2: Natal aspects to the Ascendant

Class Meeting 3: Transits to the natal Ascendant

Class Meeting 4: Progressions and directions of or to the natal Ascendant

Course Description:

All too often, the Ascendant, our entry vehicle and “spaceship” for navigating the outside world, is given short shrift in readings. Since the Ascendant is the primary interface between your client and his or her life in the outside world, astrologers should give it just as much time and attention in their interpretations as they give the Sun or the Moon. Without a healthy response to his or her Ascendant, it’s as if your client is locked into low Earth orbit but has neither fully landed nor has much clarity about what to do after touching down here.

There’s a difference between the depth of an astrologer’s knowledge of an astrological configuration, and how that configuration is best presented in order to maximize a client’s understanding and retention, while minimizing the chance that he or she will leave the reading feeling confused or overwhelmed.

In other words, there’s a difference between what you know versus what you say and how you say it.

You’ll come away from these four class sessions with some practical techniques, developed over Jodie’s 35 years of doing readings, for analyzing the significance of the Ascendant, its ruler and natal aspects, and the dynamic events involving this crucial part of a birth chart. Instead of rote definitions or jargon, Jodie focuses on creative, accessible interpretive strategies that will help your readings come alive, engage your clients, and leave them well-informed and smiling.

LECTURE: Solar Arcs: The Sun’s Courtiers

SDAS is delighted to welcome JODIE FORREST!

LECTURE: Solar Arcs: The Sun’s Courtiers

Friday, May 11, 2018
7:30 – 9:45 pm
Joyce Beers Community Center, Hillcrest

Over the thirty-four years that I’ve been a professional astrologer, many of my students’ most frequently asked questions have been about solar arc directions:
“How do solar arcs differ from secondary progressions? How should I talk about them in a reading?”
“There are so many techniques for interpreting the ongoing dynamic events that affect a birth chart . . . do solar arcs matter enough to mention?”

They do indeed. Like the legendary Knights of the Round Table, solar arcs are meant to serve the “King” of the chart, the Sun. Without a healthy and energized Sun, it can be difficult for the rest of the planets to reach their full potential, because the Sun represents your sanity, your vitality, your “executive function,” and what a psychologist would call your ego: the gravitational center of your psyche. Therefore, whatever serves the Sun can strengthen your sense of identity and boost your continuing growth into your truest and most fulfilled self.
To explore this little-understood predictive technique with me, just bring your birth chart, with its current solar arcs if possible. (If you forget your solar arcs, don’t worry; there’s an easy “quick and dirty” way to calculate them that doesn’t require a computer.) You’ll leave with new ways not only to help yourself and your clients stay sane and centered in an increasingly stressful world, but also to access and develop the radiantly creative, pro-active solar energy that is everyone’s birthright.

Admission: SDAS/NCGR/SCAN members: $8 | Non-members: $14

The Revolution Will Be Televised Tonight

The Mountain Astrologer
June / July 2017 issue
This month read the magazine article by Jodie Forrest:

The Revolution Will Be Televised Tonight with The Mountain Astrologer magazine.

Two current TV series reflect many motifs of the ongoing Uranus–Pluto square, which lasts until March, 2020: the medieval fantasy world of George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones (GoT) on HBO; and USA Network’s modern, techno-apocalyptic psychological thriller, Mr. Robot (MR).

The shows’ settings differ tremendously. Their themes, however, come straight from today’s Uranus–Pluto square, with a dash of Neptune’s transits of its own sign, Pisces, on the side.
